Proper Diets

A proper diet is one of the most important parts of caring for a rabbit. What your bunny eats directly affects their digestion, teeth, and overall health, so getting it right from the start is essential.

Hay Is the Foundation
Fresh, unlimited hay should make up the majority of a rabbit’s diet. Grass hays like timothy, orchard, or meadow hay support healthy digestion and help wear down continuously growing teeth. Hay should always be available. Bunnies less than 6 months old should have alfalfa while adults need Timothy or Orchard!

Fresh Greens Every Day
Leafy greens provide important nutrients and variety. Romaine lettuce, cilantro, parsley, basil, and spring mix are great options. Introduce new greens slowly and feed a mix to keep meals balanced. If you have a baby bunny, begin introducing greens slowly at 4 months old.

Pellets in Moderation
High-quality pellets are a supplement—not the main meal. Choose plain pellets with high fiber and no colorful bits or seeds. Adult rabbits only need a small portion daily. We recommend Oxbow, Sherwood or Science Selective!

Treats Are Occasional
Fruits and store-bought treats should be given sparingly due to high sugar content. Small pieces of apple, banana, or berries are plenty. Too many treats can lead to digestive issues and obesity.

Fresh Water Always
Clean, fresh water should be available at all times. Rabbits should have heavy ceramic bowls as they allow more natural drinking.

A Healthy Diet, A Healthy Rabbit
Feeding your rabbit correctly helps prevent common health problems and keeps them active and happy. With plenty of hay, fresh greens, and a balanced routine, you’re giving your bunny the best foundation for a long, healthy life.
